My Songs

As a teen, I tried writing lyrics. When I think about them, I'm embarrassed...not really confident that I can do any better now that I'm grown up.

So don't expect to see any actual lyrics here. For now, this will be my "notepad" for ideas.

If you *do* see anything here, it will NOT be CC copyrighted; will be "All Rights Reserved" to me.

Sorry.

It's Electronic Way

A play from something I often say about email; "It's winging it's electronic way"

It's a love song. The full title could be "My Love Wings It's Electronic Way"

The chorus would include that line, maybe something more.

And each verse would be about a different way of saying "I love you" to Carmella (my wife, for anybody that doesn't know).

  • Email
  •  ? Skype ?
  • Phone call (goes to voice mail...:)

... and a different message of "I love you" for each type, too.

This one could be fun!

Common Sense Blues

A lament on the state of the world, and the loss of common sense.

A couple of snippets

Did I rape you because I held the door?
Well, dressed like that, you raped me more.

...and of course, the "tag line" is

I've got the common sense blues

Topics

Radical/extremist feminism
where ANY intercourse is rape, admiring a woman's body is rape - even looking at *pictures* is rape.
International trespassing (immigration)
We protest adamantly when someone "cuts in line"
Government rewards lawbreakers and punishes those who do right
heavily misplaced values
911 for fast-food errors
Killing for a pair of sneakers
Rising fascism
overreacting cops
loss of privacy
the intolerance of the "tolerance" movement

Things that rhyme with blues

Why Would You Call Me That?

(or "What did I ever do to you")

chorus goes something like:

what did I ever do to you,
that you would call me that?

primarily, it's a song about racism, but also about stereotyping, prejudice and slander.

Seems To Me

(or "It Builds Character")

Did you know
That our bones grow
By breaking?

And did you know
Our muscles are
The Same?

It seems to me
that maybe our
Emotions

Are wired the same way.

Now I'm not saying life should be made hard
Other phrasing candidates
It builds character ("Our parents know that it builds character")
We don't need to be so weak

My Boss Don't Love Me Blues

All about working hard, being the best, but being unappreciated.

But there should be an undercurrent about not being perfect, but never explicitly stated.

This should be playable as a "working man's anthem" - but also should have honesty in it about how we tell ourselves we're better than we really are.

Untitled #1

A song about watching a good friend get totally beaten. Maybe physically, maybe emotionally...maybe both.

But the song is a metaphor for how the US is being torn down.

Your gods Have Lied to You

  • government as god
  • science as god
  • false religions
  • addictions

Promises of peace and prosperity that can't be kept Careful not to say "there is no God" - maybe even a clear statement that they are *false* gods...but let the contrast hint that there is a real God that CAN fulfill the promises.

Each verse starts with the same promise (sort of like a chorus...or like part of the chorus)...but the way the promise is failed is what defines the verse.

the bridge/refrain is a litany of false promises.
