Gunner

Overview
Turret is a VR game where the player is a member of the space military, assigned to operate a gun emplacement on a capital ship.
The game is designed to provide a sit-down VR experience. The in-game character will be sitting, so it will make sense for the player to sit, as well.
A flat-surface version might also be released, which renders the VR as a single image and provides gamepad affordances
Gameplay
"Leveling" is modeled after pseudo-military promotions and assignments.
Earliest level is trainee
Aim is provided by POV Other features provided by input device
- movement
- munition selection
- munition firing
- Polygonal targets
- Simple HUD
- single trigger for firing
- the only movement is POV
other levels add more features
- rendering style
- Polygonal for training
- "realistic" for combat
- allow for non-realistic
- left/right sliding turret
- different HUD
- missiles
- dumbfire
- guided by lock-on
- projectiles
- much bigger "punch", but require "leading" the target
- choice of munition
- immediate changes (beam weapons)
- delayed changes (projectile weapons, including missiles)
- selection of turret options before "battle"
- available munition types
- ability to control multiple munitions at the same time
difficulty
the definition of success for a level/mission can vary
- the turret is not destroyed
- shields (require energy)
- armor (reduces performance)
- the turret is not destroyed
- the capital ship is not destroyed
- player can change turrets when one is destroyed
- the capital ship is not destroyed
Equipment
This section is expected to change over time, but the first intention is to operate on any VR system on which React360 operates.
A gamepad of some sort is required
Architecture
The current plan is to use React360 as the primary rendering system.
It will allow for monitoring and control surfaces to operate on a separate device by way of WebSockets
The mechanism used for monitoring will also provide for the flat-surface version of the game.
Future plans
The concept of "Turret" can fit into a larger game world with other games like "CapShip" - in which the player runs the capital ship the turret is attached to.
Also, the game could be turned into something of an MMO, where "teams" act as the collection of Turrets on a capital ship. Eventually the two could be combined to expand in-game play to multiple types of games at the same time.
Another off-shoot would be "Mercenary," and "Merchant" providing for smaller teams and different goals.
The overall MMO operation could eventually include a large universe of interacting behavior and many different genre's of games.
Background
Although VR is really catching on, the games available for Android are still lacking in depth.
While "Turret" won't be that much more of an in-depth playing experience, it will offer more expansive game play than the current norm.
Comments
Bryan: I love the concept! One question, I noticed you mention React360, I did some research and its a 3d rendering system for a VR environment. I am confused was there a 2d initial version them moving into a 3D renders game, or was I confused. Again I love this game but I was thinking we tackle something very simple at first just to cut our teeth on the Google, advertising etc... systems. My worry is we would get bogged down with a 3D graphical environment for our first project.
